So clever! It is also a great visual tool when/if you do the introduction lesson on pg. 104. I'd love to see your bulletin board!

    curriculum confusion
Julie, I agree with you that we should take a year to plan, explore, & discover the best books to make each signpost shine. With that said, I also like how Tara plans on using it with her small guided reading groups. I think this could easily be done with the first grade "outliers" who will be ready for more complex thinking right from the start. The tricky part is finding those books that are complex enough. Hopefully, our new guided reading books from the district will help with this!

    Visuals to match the signposts
I do think that a picture would help visual learners. It would be easy for the students to match the picture on the poster to the bookmark. I downloaded a copy of the bookmark Idelle made and plan on using the 3rd column for the picture.

    Favorite Signpost
My favorite signpost is Aha Moment. Students have these moments all the time in class, so I think it would be easy for them to relate to the situation. I also like the Again and Again signpost. This seems to always pop up in favorite picture books and I think it would create interesting discussions with first graders!

    Favorite Signpost
I like the Aha Moment and feel that even first graders can easily relate to it. The authors mention that most students use the comprehension strategy of visualizing as they think about the Aha Moment, and in my experience most early primary students enjoy creating that mental image.

    Visuals to match the signposts
Creating an anchor chart for each signpost is a foundational component of the lessons. Would it be beneficial for our youngest learners to include some type of picture/graphic that matches each signpost? Has this been done already? What visuals would you use to represent each signpost?

    Combined teaching of signposts?
Your are right on Michelle! Once students are comfortable finding the signposts individually, I think they will start to notice how multiple signposts can be noted in one text. We can work on the book list together!
